Earthquake Update - The George

Earthquake Update - The George

The George and its team are very grateful to have come through the 22 February earthquake remarkably well considering the situation in Christchurch. The George is in the cordoned four avenues area so access is restricted but we are in clean-up mode. We have electricity to the building but are hampered by the absence of running water.

Structural engineers inspected the building late Wednesday 23 February and declared it safe to occupy. Nonetheless, with no water, gas and limited supplies we are not in a position to look after guests and Christchurch's infrastructure has been seriously damaged.

We are advising all guests with reservations for accommodation up until 2 March to please stay away from Christchurch. The hotel will not impose any cancellation fees. Guests with reservations after that date please check back with us on or after 28 February when hopefully we will have a clearer picture of the situation. 50 on Park restaurant will also be closed until 2 March. Pescatore restaurant will be closed until 15 March.

The team here at The George would like to thank all those who have been in contact with us to express their sympathy and enquire about our wellbeing. Your warm messages are most appreciated.

The George will keep you updated about its situation via its homepage www.thegeorge.com or if you would like to post messages you are welcome to do so on www.georgebearblog.com or join us on Facebook.
