Solomon Praises Wellington Marae for Quake Donations

I would like to personally thank the people of Wellington and Pipitea Marae who have responded so generously and in a such pragmatic way to the needs of those affected by the Christchurch earthquake.

The three shipping containers filled with bottled water, toiletries, non-perishable food, clothes and tools that arrived today is a huge boost to the relief effort.

It is an amazing effort from the Wellington community and one that is thankfully being repeated all over the country by a host of different communities, iwi, organisations and individuals. If people still want to help, cash donations are a good way to directly support the relief efforts.

Ngāi Tahu has coordinated the receipt of the containers. They have arrived at the Wigram Hub and we will work with the appropriate agencies and their networks to distribute the supplies to those that are most in need. Some supplies will be distributed to marae community centres throughout the region.

ENDS.
