Public Fashion Shows here to stay

Public Fashion Shows will become a regular feature in Newmarket following the outstanding success of a public Catwalk event held in Newmarket on Saturday.

Newmarket Business Association head, Ashley Church, says the free public event, which was held out in the open on Osborne Street, exceeded all expectations.

"Each of the 4 shows we held throughout the day attracted hundreds of people - despite the odd light shower and the constant threat of heavy rain. The last show of the day was the only one where rain was really a factor - and that had the biggest crowd"!

Mr Church said that free fashion shows were once commonplace in New Zealand but have disappeared in recent years and have been replaced by ticketed events which have only been accessible to a select few. But he says this has now changed with the move by Newmarket to make such events accessible again.

"Fashion events should be about showcasing new styles and trends to the widest possible section of society - because ultimately, it's the public who will decide what we'll be wearing by voting with their purses and wallets".

Mr Church says the next free public Show in Newmarket will probably take place later this year and will almost certainly be bigger than last weekends show which featured garments from around 30 designers and retailers.

"Free public fashion shows are back"!
