Renowned architects’ present plans at CPIT
Three internationally renowned New Zealand Institute of Architecture (NZIA) members will present their ideas for a ‘people friendly’ Christchurch central city tomorrow night at CPIT.
The presentation is a chance to see what local architects who have lived in Christchurch for all or most of their lives have to offer the rebuild in Canterbury. It elaborates on the popular NZIA submission to CERA and the Christchurch City Council for the Draft Central City plan.
Speakers Jasper van der Lingen, Sir Miles Warren and Richard Dalman will explain their ideas for rebuilding a people-focused Christchurch with mixed-use buildings, courtyards, walkways and an expanse of greenery. They include case studies of the Cashel Mall area and the old Para Rubber site.
Their desire is to make Christchurch a place that people want to return to and they believe their plans are practical for the central city. The key difference to other plans drafted so far is that their ideas have been thought out and presented in 3D, which makes it easier for people to visualise the ideas.
The presentation will commence in D Block Lecture Theatre at CPIT’s Madras Street Campus tomorrow evening at 6pm and will be followed by the opportunity to ask questions.
