Christchurch Beach Clean Up and Fun Day Out, 5th Nov 2011

Christchurch Beach Clean Up and Fun Day Out, 5th Nov 2011

Like the flowers that suddenly blossom after a long winter, Christchurch has taken its first tentative steps towards recovery. Shops are reopening, Hagley Park hosted its own version of Party Central during the World Cup, and the beaches, polluted for so long, welcome families once more.

It is in the spirit of this reawakening of a City’s spirit that a group of people, under the auspices of Earthrace Conservation Organisation New Zealand (ECO NZ) is hosting a special day to mark World Wide Anti-Whaling Day (WWAWD) at Waimariri Beach in North New Brighton this Saturday the 5thof November.

The event, held from 10am to 3pm, starts with a 2 hour beach clean up, followed by a family picnic, sandcastle and painting competitions with prizes for the little ones, and many other family orientated activities designed to entertain and inform both young and old.

Gloves and bags will be provided for the beach clean-up, and everyone who signs up will automatically be in the draw to win two tickets to swim with the Hector dolphins at Akaroa, kindly donated by Black Cat Cruises!

Several conservation orientated stalls and guest speakers complete the day, including Green MP Gareth Hughes who will be available for a chat about the conservation issues that matter most to the people of New Zealand.

Date and time: Saturday the 5th of November 2011, 10am – 3pm
Venue: Waimairi Beach, Broad Park Entrance, North New Brighton
