Botany Town Centre Lights up with Santa’s SoupOpera Concert

Media Release November 2011

BOTANY TOWN CENTRE LIGHTS UP WITH SANTA’S SOUPOPERA CONCERT

Yuletide-fever is starting to spread as Botany Town Centre, together with the Lions Club of Howick embrace the festive season by hosting the annual Santa’s SoupOpera Charity Concert on Thursday 24 November, which will feature Santa lighting up the big Christmas tree in Town Square and an array of local entertainment.

The annual SoupOpera concert will see local singers and dancers grace the stage and share their talent in a variety concert which aims support a range of charities. All proceeds from the sale of glow sticks, Lions Club Christmas cakes and donated cans of food will be distributed by the club to nominated charities.

Delighted to support the popular family event, Botany Town Centre senior marketing manager Desiree Clark says, “We look forward to this concert each year, and it is a pleasure to host an entertaining family event which gives back to the community and supports people in need.

“Christmas can be a challenging time for many people as they worry about the cost of gifts. An event like the SoupOpera reminds us that Christmas is about celebrating the gift of giving, no matter how big or small and enjoying quality time with your loved ones.”

The SoupOpera concert kicks off at 6.30pm with entertainment from teen singing sensations Niklas Hansen and Andrew Papas, TribeZ tribal belly dancers, E-PACS Dragon and Lion dance team, plus much more. The grand finale of the evening will see the official arrival of Santa and the ceremonious lighting of the nine-metre Christmas tree.

Lions Club of Howick event organiser Carel Sietses says, “The SoupOpera is a major event in our calendar and each year we look forward to putting on a great show. This year’s concert promises to be a lot of fun with an interactive performance planned by the City of Sails Rock-n-Roll group.

“It gives us great satisfaction to support and give back to the community with this event. This year is particularly special as we mark our 50th jubilee year and we hope to continue our service to the community and working with Botany Town Centre for many years to come.”
