Full Rates Remission for Port Hills Residents
Environment Canterbury Commissioners have approved the remission of 100 percent of rates for residents in Christchurch’s Port Hills at today’s council meeting.
The decision will affect 525 Port Hills properties which are currently eligible for 40 percent rates remission.
The 100 percent rates remission is for residential properties that are considered by the City Council to be at risk of rock-fall and where the occupant has been instructed by the City Council to vacate the property and issued with a notice under section 124(1)(b) of the Building Act 2004.
The cost of the rates remission to the Environment Canterbury budget is estimated to be $45,000. Commissioners voted that this money is to come from reserves for 2011/12.
