Following the further aftershock at 3.20pm, power was again tripped to the Eastern Suburbs of Christchurch and to the rural central Canterbury area around Springston.

As at 4.00pm, the power to the latter area had been restored but there remains 26,000 customers without power in the Eastern Suburbs of Christchurch.

We are awaiting word from Transpower that they have switched equipment back on at their Bromley substation. Once this has been done, we can better assess our own equipment in that area and facilitate the restoration of power to the Eastern Suburbs area.
