Christchurch Mayor calls for urgent briefing from seismologists
Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker has called
for an urgent briefing from GNS Science seismologists
following the recent spate of aftershocks in the city.
"Today I have fielded a lot of questions on seismic issues.
Everywhere I go that's what people are talking about. People
are obviously concerned and hungry for the most up-to-date
information. I think it's important that we hear from the
scientists themselves on what's happening and what's the
likelihood of further events," Mr Parker says.
He is organising a forum on Friday for the city's elected members, local Members of Parliament and also the media. "I have yet to confirm a time and venue for this event, but at this stage I am planning for it to take place on Friday afternoon. It is important that we get the most up-to-date information available."
