Huge line-up announced for South Auckland Waitangi Day celebrations

More than 40,000 people are expected to flock to Barry Curtis Park, in Flat Bush, for Toi o Manukau’s annual Waitangi Day family celebration.

This year’s line up includes New Zealand reggae giants Katchafire, rising international star David Dallas, Ardijah, Maisey Rika, Bella Kalolo, Sons of Zion and Foundation.

In a unique first, China’s number one reggae band Long Shen Dao, are making the trip to entertain the huge crowd.

The Mayor says he’s looking forward to a major highlight of Waitangi Day in the South.

“Waitangi Day is our national day and the Toi o Manukau event is a great way for our community to join together. In fact, I would encourage people from across Auckland to come to the event,” says Len Brown.

Toi o Manukau’s Kaiwhakahaere Nigel Borell says he is excited to be presenting the event and believes the South Auckland community is in for a great day.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing China’s top reggae band perform alongside Aotearoa’s most exciting and dynamic artists,” says Nigel.

The 2012 programme also features a mihi whakatau (ceremonial welcome), tiriti korero (Treaty education and information), nga toi (arts stall area) and a tamariki zone with free children’s rides and activities.

The event is in its third year at Barry Curtis Park and is the Auckland region’s largest Waitangi Day celebration with over 40,000 attendees in each of its previous years.
