Your bike is in for a treat at the Big Bike Fixup
It’s time to get your bike out
of the shed and make sure it is in good condition for summer
cycling.
A FREE, Big Bike Fix-Up is to be held at the Clock Tower in Hastings CBD on Saturday February 4th, from 10am to 11:30am.
Deputy Mayor Cynthia Bowers says “Mechanics from local bike shops will be on hand to give bikes the once over and make sure they are road worthy. Any minor repairs will be done on the spot but if the work required can’t be completed within the five minute check, bike owners will receive a $10 voucher for repairs which can be made at one of the participating bike shops.”
Cynthia Bowers says “Everyone should be sure their bike is in top condition before venturing out onto the cyclelanes or paths which have been developed around the district as part of the iWay project. The mechanics will check that the brakes, tyres and other parts of your bike are in good working order and identify anything which needs further maintenance.”
“It doesn't matter what state your wheels are in - just come down to the Clock Tower and our trained mechanics will see you right It is important that your bike is maintained in a roadworthy condition at all times and this is the ideal opportunity to have children’s bikes checked as they prepare for the new school year,” Mrs Bowers says.
iWay is running some exciting events during February which will provide further opportunities to get on your bike. They include the Bikewise Challenge for businesses, Go by Bike Day on the 24th February and a new mass trail ride which will finish at the Puketapu Domain on Saturday the 25th February.
The Big Bike Fix-Up is part of the Hastings District Council’s iWay project, which is creating easier and safer ways of getting more people walking and cycling.
