Rena update - Container Removal Continues In Calm Seas

Rena update #177 - Saturday 21 January 2012 -10.30 a.m


Salvage
• 19 containers were removed from Rena's bow yesterday.
• Salvors will continue to take advantage of good weather conditions to progress work on the wreck.
• Planning to remove further containers from the bow today. .
• No change to status of the wreck.
• Fine weather and relatively calm seas.
• Salvors continue to empty a second container of milk powder. Bags of milk powder will be removed from the wreck by helicopter
Containers.
• Ongoing on-water and shoreline debris removal at Bowentown Heads
• Skips have been dispatched to the East Cape area for debris disposal
Oil
• Equipment maintenance weekend.
• Two teams of 15 working at Mount Managanui and Leisure Island
Wildlife
• Final night operation held last night
• The wildlife response facility in Tauranga is being demobilised and any wildlife will be sent to Massey, Palmerston North for treatment.

Updates
• There will be no update tomorrow (Sunday 22 January) unless the status of the wreck changes
• The next media update will be on Monday 23 January at 8.00 a.m
• The next press conference will be on Thursday 26 November at 3.00 p.m, at the ICC Tauranga
