Team of 40 searching for missing Karori woman
A search team of around 40 are continuing to look for missing 74 year old Karori woman Edna Mae Cairns, known as 'Mae'.
Mae was last seen at her Standen Street home on Monday evening and is believed to have gone missing from her home address sometime yesterday morning.
Acting Sergeant Anthony Harmer, officer in charge of the search says a further search of the Karori Cemetery has been carried out this morning and an urban search in and around Karori is now underway.
"We have a team of 40 involved in today's search. This includes Land SAR volunteers, Karori Community Patrol, volunteers from Wellington Emergency Response, Lower Hutt Emergency Response and Upper Hutt Community Rescue as well as Police personnel."
Acting Sergeant Harmer says Police are grateful for the offers of assistance from various members of the Karori community but we have the capacity to complete a thorough search today, without any extra help at this stage.
"We appeal to anyone in the Karori area who may have seen Mae since yesterday morning and come forward and contact Police. She is of very thin build and was believed to be wearing a white top, blue jeans, and black shoes."
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Wellington Police on (04) 381 2000 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
