Waitaki Community Awards Open To All
For the first time all Waitaki residents will be able to enter the TrustPower Community Awards under the same Award ceremony with entries open for the TrustPower Waitaki District Community Awards today (February 13).
The Awards, which are run in conjunction with the Waitaki District Council and TrustPower, are open to all voluntary groups and organisations working to make Waitaki a better place to live.
Anyone can enter a group or organisation for the TrustPower Waitaki District Community Awards – voluntary groups and organisations can even enter themselves.
The awards cover five categories; Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure, and Educational and Child/Youth Development. Category winners receive $500, runners-up receive $250 and the Supreme Winner will take home $1,500 and an all-expenses paid trip to the 2011 TrustPower National Community Awards. There will also be a special Waihemo Award for $500 that will recognise the birthplace of the Awards in the district.
Waitaki Mayor Alex Familton is looking forward to learning about the voluntary based projects that will be revealed in the 2012 Community Awards.
“The new TrustPower Waitaki District Community Awards will bring the entire district together to celebrate the success of its volunteer community whilst giving some special recognition to the Waihemo region, which initiated the awards in the District”, says Mayor Familton.
TrustPower Community Relations Manager Graeme Purches believes that the new Waitaki Awards will prove a great outcome for everybody.
“The Waitaki district has an impressive volunteering culture and I hope to see the community come on board and recognise these unsung heroes.
Entering a group for the TrustPower Community Awards will take just two minutes of your time, but will be an enormous boost for the group you are recognising,” says Mr Purches.
The Community Awards will be presented at a function at the Opera House in Oamaru on June 11. TrustPower will provide return transport by a bus from the Waihemo region.
Entry Forms for the TrustPower Community Awards are available from the Council offices or service centres or can be downloaded from www.trustpower.co.nz/communityawards. Entry Forms can also be received by calling TrustPower Community Relations on 0800 87 11 11.
Entries close on Friday 20 April.
