Taupō Invites New Zealanders to Share its Natural Wonders

Walking tracks, mountain bike trails and a pristine lake are amongst the Great Lake Taupō region's natural attractions being showcased this autumn.

"The region has so much to offer - without a hefty price tag attached - and autumn with its crisp, cool mornings and sunny days is a perfect time to visit," says Scott Pearson, General Manager Destination Great Lake Taupō.

With this in mind Destination Great Lake Taupō launched its autumn campaign in Turangi, the gateway to the Tongariro region. It focuses on free natural attractions and invites New Zealanders to visit.

"It doesn't cost a fortune to experience some world renowned attractions including Huka Falls, the World Heritage Listed Tongariro National Park and the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, and of course all the activity in and around our gem of a centrepiece, the Lake itself, which is one of the world's purest," says Pearson.

"As New Zealanders we are very fortunate to have such spectacular scenery and landscape and we should all enjoy and experience it."

Suggested free activities in the region include a visit to New Zealand's most visited natural attraction Huka Falls, walking along the river at the Tongariro National Trout Centre, watching the water surge through the Aratiatia Dam or watching steaming mud pools amidst the native bush at the Tokaanu Thermal Walk.

The autumn campaign, in partnership with the Department of Conservation, encourages preservation of these natural attractions for the enjoyment of visitors and local residents today and in the future. The campaign tagline summarises everything the District has to offer - 'you can't put a price on perfection...so we haven't'.
