Project Janszoon Trust Appointment Of Two New Directors

The Project Janszoon Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Directors.

Nelson based Ms Gillian Wratt is currently Chief Executive of the Cawthron Institute, the largest privately owned research provider in New Zealand. Gillian has an honours degree in Botany and her business experience ranges from research management, through negotiation of environmental provisions for NZ’s free trade agreements, to the management of the NZ Antarctic Institute. She was recently appointed to the Board of the Environmental Protection Agency and is a Board Member of the Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce.

In 1993 Gillian was awarded the NZ Suffrage Memorial Medal and in 2004 was made a member of the NZ Order of Merit.

As a former NZ whitewater kayak champion and keen climber Gillian is also a great advocate for the NZ outdoors.

Prize winning author and distinguished environmentalist Dr Philip Simpson brings to the Trust a vast experience of the NZ natural environment and a long association with Golden Bay.

Formerly a Botanist with the Department of Conservation, Philip has developed his own environmental consulting business, served on the Nelson Marlborough Conservation Board and is a founding trustee of Project Crimson. His environmental work was honoured in 2009 with the award of the Loder Cup, NZ’s premier conservation award.

With two Montana Award winning books behind him, and a Creative New Zealand Michael King Writers Fellowship to support his current book, Philip continues to share his deep knowledge and appreciation of NZ’s natural environment with enthusiastic audiences.

The Project Janszoon Trust is a privately funded initiative which has partnered with the Department of Conservation to transform the ecology of the Abel Tasman National Park
