Christchurch Airport - 9.45am Thursday update

Christchurch Airport remains open.

The temperature here has risen to minus-3.5 degrees.

We had a Singapore Airlines international flight land just after 9am and are expecting another Singapore Airlines flight at 10.48am.

The entire airport team has worked solidly since 3am yesterday morning to keep on top of the snow conditions and we are hopeful that
with temperatures rising and ice thawing we will see domestic departures commence before midday.

It is still essential for intending travellers to check with their airlines before coming to the airport.

We continue to be concerned about the treacherous road conditions in and around the airport, as well as on roads getting here.
We advise motorists to take utmost care if they are on the roads.

We now have two Hagglunds (Antarctic people-movers from the International Antarctic Centre) transporting staff from the car-park to the terminal.
