Dodgeball a slam dunk at Queenstown Winter Festival

It was game on in Queenstown today as competitors showed off their athletic flair dodging, ducking, diving, and dunking in the hotly contested 2012 Speight’s Summit Dodgeball Championships in Day 8 of the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival.

In true dodgeball style there were plenty of entertaining antics 27 teams took to the cage to battle it out for glory with balls flying left, right and centre.

“Dodgeball always provides a lot of fun for competitors and the crowds that gather. The games are full of competitive spirit and it’s great to see everyone so enthusiastic,” Festival Director Simon Green said.

Hosted by Jo “Hawkeye” Holley and Mark “Mr Inappropriate” Wilson, the 2012 Championships were taken out by ‘Those Meddling Kids’ Matt Bowie, Simon Bowie, Matt Price, and Tom Baxter who were decked out as Scooby Doo characters. They defeated ‘Winter Grass’, a team comprising James Morris-Williamson, Luke Sullivan, Jack Greasly and Anthony Oorshot, who travel around the country playing in dodgeball contests.

“It was a very hotly contested championship with two great teams battling it out in the final. Those Meddling Kids had been meddling with the teams all day and deserved the win,” Mark Wilson said.
