After its successful reception in 2011, the BMW NZ Open
returns to Clearwater Golf Club, giving Christchurch its
second round of premier golf from Thursday 22 – Sunday 25
November.
This flagship tournament for the men’s
game in New Zealand is the biggest event on Christchurch’s
sporting calendar, and fans of all stripes are invited to
watch.
Mayor Bob Parker says the year’s national
championship makes Christchurch New Zealand’s golfing
capital.
“This city is taking on bigger and better
challenges, and we’re looking forward to the international
visitors and the buzz this event will generate, as well as
the positive impact it will have on our city and its
ratepayers.
“The Christchurch City Council remains
committed to attracting top sporting events and athletes to
the city, and it will be a privilege to host top New Zealand
golfers such as Mark Brown, Michael Hendry and Vaughan
McCall on our greens.”
The BMW NZ Open will be
broadcast into Canada, Latin America, the United States,
China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and
Australia. There will be an estimated 166 hours of coverage,
reaching nearly 117 million households.
Christchurch
ratepayers and their guests are eligible for passes to
attend the BMW NZ Open for half-price. Those who attend will
be on course to win the use of a BMW 3 Series Sedan for the
summer. For more information visit
www.bmwnzopen.co.nz.
Those who sample some of the South
Island’s leading wines, along with local food and produce,
in the Village Square at Clearwater Golf Club go in the draw
to win one of two double passes to the New World Wine & Food
Festival. Wineries with a presence at the BMW NZ Open
include Pyramid Valley, Floating Mountain, The Third Man,
Shingle Peak and Mountford Estate.

With this strictly nominal surplus in sight, the 1984-ish justification for eternal austerity will have a news talisman: namely, getting Crown debt down to 20% of GDP by 2020. More>>
Budget Report, Lockup Audio & Images: Budget Day 2013 As always and especially after the managerial mishaps of the past few weeks and months, (e.g. Aaron Gilmore, the Mighty River Power share float, the GCSB mishaps) Budget Day 2013 was always going to be a pageant of reassurance... More>>
Budget 2013 Comment: Plain Sailing, But It's No America's Cup Pattrick Smellie: Compared to the last four budgets, this year's reflects an economy moving out of recession and into calmer waters... Yet if the fastest annual growth rate we can expect over the next two years is 3 percent - with the Christchurch rebuild in full swing - then you'd have to say New Zealand's underlying low-growth problem is far from fixed. Auckland Discord: Govt’s Power Hungry Housing Approach A Threat - Labour
Last week the Government said this, ‘The Government commits not to use any proposed or existing powers ... to override the council's planning and consenting processes’. But its housing Bill says this; ‘If an accord cannot be reached in an area of severe housing unaffordability, the Government can intervene by establishing special housing areas and issuing consents for developers’.
