Skyping Father Christmas this year

Waikato social media fanatic looking forward to Skyping Father Christmas this year

Calling a charity out of the blue and telling them she’s got money to give them is just another day in the office for Hamilton woman Julie South of HaloBiz. However, calling Santa and asking him to stop by her office will be a whole new experience – and one she’s looking forward to this year.

HaloBiz is inviting kiwis to donate children’s presents (new, pre-loved or handmade) to their offices in Hamilton. In the week of the 17th December South will Skype Father Christmas in the South Pole and ask him to stop by their offices for a pickup, so he can deliver the gifts to children of families who’re using Women’s Refuge services.

The Give a Child a Gift this Christmas is being run from HaloBiz’s Facebook Page (HaloBizNZ) and everyone who contributes a gift will go in a draw to win a $100 voucher themselves.

HaloBiz is the online & social media marketing company that specialises in polishing business halos in the online world. Halobiz.co.nz is the world’s first and only community-minded business directory. HaloBiz donates money to nominated charities on behalf of its network members. At halobiz.co.nz you can discover which businesses support community organisations.

The Give a Child a Gift this Christmas came about because many charities get overloaded over the Christmas/New Year period with requests for their services. To South it made sense to see whether HaloBiz could help relieve some of that burden, but in a different way. Wanting to put some smiles on kids’ faces – those kids whose home mightn’t give them much to smile about – was the driving force.

The public can participate by sending their child’s gift to HaloBiz at PO Box 28096, Rototuna, Hamilton 3256. If they wish to enter the lucky dip “thank you” draw they can do that at HaloBiz’s Facebook Page (facebook.com/HaloBizNZ). Donees are asked to wrap their gifts with some ‘wow factor’ and write an uplifting message to the child, as well as identifying the most suitable age & sex of its intended recipient (eg, boy 4-5 years).

Gordon Campbell: On The US Opposition To Mortgage Interest Deductibility For Landlords

Should landlords be able to deduct the interest on the loans they take out to bankroll their property speculation?
