Police investigating unexplained death of nine-year-old boy

Ohakune police are investigating the unexplained death of a nine year-old boy that was discovered deceased at his Raetihi home early this morning (Friday 7 December 2012).

"A family member discovered the boy was deceased and notified Police and ambulance," said Detective Senior Sergeant Keith Borrell.

"We hope to have a post-mortem completed by late this evening. At this stage the cause of death remains unexplained."

Police are in the process of interviewing witnesses and scene examination is underway. Police have no further comment to make at this stage.

“However, the road blocks established by Police at Ruatoki and Taneatua were unlawful, unjustified and unreasonable... Police had no legal basis for stopping and searching vehicles or photographing drivers or passengers,” he said...

The report also showed that the detention of the occupants at five properties examined by the Authority was unlawful and unreasonable. More>>
