A Warm Weekend

Weather conditions over New Zealand have generally settled down a little,now that the storm of the last few days has abated. New Zealand is under the influence of a ridge of high pressure today and tomorrow, before westerlies return at the weekend.

"The weekend is likely to be warm just about everywhere," commented MetService Chief Forecaster Peter Kreft. "However, in the east of both islands hot might be a better word, with afternoon temperatures expected to be around the 30 degree mark - and possibly higher - on Saturday and in some places again on Sunday."

Monday sees a southwest flow over the country, which should cool things down in most places. "Beyond next Monday, it looks as though the westerlies will continue for a few days," Kreft went on to say. "This may again push daytime temperatures in eastern places into the high 20s."

"Timing of weather events beyond Monday is still a little uncertain," said Kreft. "If you are planning outdoor activities, it will be important to keep up-to-date with the latest MetService forecasts and any Watches or Warnings."

"Unlawful, Unjustified And Unreasonable": Report Into Urewera Raids Finds Police Acted Unlawfully

Independent Police Conduct Authority Chair Judge Sir David Carruthers said today that the decision by the then Commissioner of Police to undertake the operation in Ruatoki Valley and elsewhere on 15 October 2007 was reasonable and justified.

“However, the road blocks established by Police at Ruatoki and Taneatua were unlawful, unjustified and unreasonable... Police had no legal basis for stopping and searching vehicles or photographing drivers or passengers,” he said...

The report also showed that the detention of the occupants at five properties examined by the Authority was unlawful and unreasonable. More>>
