Kawhia - Officer Assaulted
Waikato Police are appealing for information from the public following a serious assault on one of their colleagues in Käwhia at approximately 6 pm on Friday 11 January 2013.
Acting Senior Sergeant Gael Mockford of the Te Awamutu Police said an officer was arresting a local Käwhia man in relation to Warrants at the Käwhia wharf.
"While trying to arrest the offender the officer was assaulted by at least five males. The Käwhia Fire Service and a number of Käwhia locals assisted the Käwhia Officer."
Ms Mockford said several units from a across the District responded to the incident. Three offenders were apprehended but at least two offenders remain at large. Enquiries are still underway to identify and locate the outstanding offenders.
"The officer was treated for his injuries and is recuperating with family."
"At this time we would like to speak to anyone who was in the area of the Käwhia Wharf at 6 pm on Friday evening who saw anything untoward, or from anyone who knows the identity of the offenders."
