Man sought after assault on elderly couple
Christchurch Police believe the person responsible for a serious assault on an elderly couple this afternoon is a male relative of one of the victims.
Police and ambulance were called to an address in St Martins Road at approximately 1.15pm.
A man, aged 72, and a woman, aged 80, who live at the address, had been subject to a serious assault inside the dwelling. It is believed a weapon had been used.
Both had suffered head injuries, while the woman was reported to have also suffered arm injuries. Both were conscious, but were taken to hospital by ambulance with what were described as serious injuries.
The offender had left the scene by the time Police arrived. Initial enquiries indicate that the offender is likely to be a male relative of one of the victims, and enquiries are continuing to locate the man.
