Fleeing Driver crashes stolen car - 4
injured
Four females, two aged 16 years and two
aged 17 years have been critically injured in a car crash in
the suburb of Kohimarama, Auckland.
At about 11pm on Sunday night Police received multiple calls about the behaviour of a group of females in and around a coffee shop in Mission Bay. A police patrol saw the vehicle in which the group were travelling in the vicinity and established that it had been stolen from Green Bay on Saturday.
When the police patrol attempted to stop the vehicle as it left Paritai Drive, the driver immediately accelerated. The vehicle travelled up Kepa Road in Kohimarama at speed, hitting a concrete median strip and losing control. The vehicle struck a block wall of a property on the corner of Colenso Place, the pursuit lasted about 1 minute.
All four occupants were cut from the vehicle and suffered critical injuries. They are in Auckland Hospital, next of kin have been advised and are now at the hospital.
In addition to those who witnessed the behaviour in the Mission Bay shopping centre, Police are seeking witnesses to the driver behaviour in that part of the city and as the vehicle was driven from Tamaki Drive, up Ngapipi Road and on to Kepa Road. Anyone able to assist Police with their enquiries is asked to contact the Auckland Police on Ph 3026400.
Police have commenced an investigation in to the circumstances of the crash and will be notifying the Independent Police Conduct Authority first thing this morning.
