Traffic delays in Newtown

Traffic delays in Newtown – avoid if you can

There are extensive traffic delays in Newtown this evening due to two incidents.

Traffic is down to one lane on Constable Street as Wellington Electricity contractors fix a power pole that has fallen at the corner of Constable and Daniell streets.

As well as that, a trolley bus wire has broken at the intersection of Adelaide Road, John and Riddiford streets. A repair truck is blocking one lane and is causing disruption especially to northbound traffic.

Motorists are advised to avoid Newtown for the next hour or so if at all possible.

The ministry says the business has failed to recruit and retain quality staff – and says the kaimahi (caregivers) that have been employed are seriously unsuitable for the job, lacking basic knowledge.
