Local schools win in
softball tournament
Upper Harbour Local Board would like to congratulate the Black Sox on becoming World champions at the 2013 ISF Men’s World Softball Championship and the local schools that competed in the World T-ball Championships schools tournament on Sunday 10 March.
Seven local boards supported nine schools in the tournament, providing equipment, coaching and t-shirts.
Shelly Park Primary School and Papatoetoe West School made the finals, with Shelly Park Primary taking the title at the curtain raiser match of the men’s international final on Sunday.
“This tournament was a great way to see two generations sharing a fantastic international event and Upper Harbour Local Board is very proud to have organised it with Softball 2013,” says chairperson Margaret Miles.
“This competition also would not have been possible without the support of the other local boards that took part, so we would like to thank them for their contributions and for supporting their local schools.”
The international men’s tournament took place in Rosedale Park, Albany last week, and New Zealand’s own Black Sox won the title and their sixth world championship, beating Venezuela 4-1.
“It was a fantastic result for the Black Sox on home soil, in front of a kiwi crowd,” says Mrs Miles.
