Second coat seal for Omahu Road
Preparatory work is being undertaken today (13th March) before a second coat seal project is completed on Omahu Road.
Small areas at the intersections of Omahu Road intersections with Chatham, Raupare, Meihana Roads and Barnes Place have had chip seal applied today before a coating of asphaltic concrete (AC) is applied tonight. These small zones at the intersections come under pressure when vehicles make their turns and are considered high stress areas. Asphaltic concrete leaves a smooth surface which provides a more durable and long lasting solution for these areas.
The Omahu Road/Henderson Road intersection will be resealed in asphaltic concrete next week (week beginning Monday 18th March) prior to the second coat chip seal being applied to Omahu Road between Wilson Road and Kirkwood Road.
Hastings District Council Transportation Manager Jag Pannu says “The first coat seal was laid on Omahu Road early in 2011 and it is normal practice to put a second coat seal on after around 18 months to allow a settling down period. Sealing the five intersections prior to chip sealing Omahu Road will ensure that the resulting surface provides a smooth entry and exit for these roads.”
Jag Pannu says “There will be some disruption to traffic flow on Omahu Road next week as the sealing is done. The road will remain open to two way traffic where possible but there will be short delays on some occasions. The AC top coat will be applied during the evening in an effort to minimise traffic delays. It is vital that road users in the Omahu Road area show some patience while this work is completed and we ask motorists to use an alternative route if possible.”
All the work is weather dependent.
