Newmarket names ‘Business of the Year’

Ergo Consulting was named Newmarket Business of the Year at the BNZ Newmarket Business Excellence Awards on Friday evening. The Award recognises outstanding achievement in business and was the high point of an evening which celebrated business success in nine categories.

Ergo Consulting, which also won the ‘People’s Choice’ Award, is based in Newmarket, and provides large industry organisations throughout New Zealand and Australia with expert electrical engineering consulting services.

In recognising their achievement, Newmarket Business Association Chief Executive, Ashley Church, described Ergo Consulting as a worthy winner amongst a field of outstanding contenders for the title.

“Ergo Consulting epitomise the role of Newmarket as a centre of quality and innovation and as the home of many high end businesses which operate across New Zealand, Australia, and beyond. Their focus on professionalism, responsibility and work-life balance exemplifies the qualities which make Newmarket such an outstanding business location.”
The Awards Ceremony, which was organised by the Newmarket Business Association and which is now into its second year, was attended by around 250 people and was addressed by 2010 New Zealander of the Year Sir Ray Avery.

The Ceremony also recognised eight other categories including Retailer of the Year, which was won by health food super store Wise Cicada, and the Service Excellence Award, which was won by Fashion icon Andrea Moore.

On World Refugee Day, Thursday June 20th, Doing Our Bit will officially launch a campaign to double New Zealand’s UNHCR Refugee Resettlement Quota...

New Zealand’s low refugee intake is not a new issue. In February a NZ Herald editorial commented that our intake was ‘paltry’, remarking that ‘surely we could do more’. In April, Amnesty International described the quota as ‘tiny'.

“Despite being a small country in the middle of the South Pacific, New Zealand prides itself on being hospitable. We are friendly to overseas visitors and we see ourselves as punching above our weight in international affairs,” said Murdoch Stephens, coordinator of Doing Our Bit.

“However, in terms of accepting refugees New Zealand is clearly not doing our share.” More>>
