Whangarei Armed Offenders Squad Callout
19/03/2013
1900hrs
Whangarei Police were called to a private address in the suburb of Tikipunga today at about 4pm, following a report that a local man was in possession of firearms whilst not being the holder of a firearms licence.
The circumstances and personal situation of the persons involved necessitated the use of the Whangarei based Armed Offenders Squad.
A number of streets were cordoned by Police for about 2 hours while the address was secured.
A 35 year old local man has been taken into custody.
An enquiry has been launched, and a number of addresses are currently being searched.
The cordons were lifted at about 7pm.
There were no shots fired during the incident.
A number of people are being spoken to by Police, with charges expected to be laid tomorrow.
Whangarei police are grateful to the local community for their understanding and patience during the time cordons were in place.
