COUNTDOWN BEGINS TO NATIONAL COMMUNITY AWARDS
Kaibosh prepares to represent Wellington City

In just a few days Kaibosh will be going head to head with the country’s best and brightest voluntary groups and organisations at the TrustPower National Community Awards.

The 2012 TrustPower National Community Awards are being held in the Far North District from 22 - 24 March 2013.

Kaibosh is representing Wellington City at the TrustPower National Community Awards – an honour they won after being named Supreme Winner at the Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards last year. These awards are run in partnership between Wellington Airport and Wellington Community Trust every year and follow Community Awards that have first been held in the five council regions of Kapiti, Porirua, Hutt City, Lower Hutt and Wellington City.

Joining Kaibosh at the National Community Awards will be representatives from 23 other voluntary groups or organisations from around the country that were named Supreme Winner at their regional TrustPower Community Awards.

At the National Community Awards, Kaibosh will give an eight minute presentation on what the group has achieved and why they deserve the title of TrustPower National Community Award Supreme Winner. Kaibosh will be judged on that presentation, along with a 1,000 word summary of the organisation.

The presentations will take place on Saturday 23 March at the Turner Centre in Kerikeri, with the Winner and Runner-Up being announced at an Awards dinner that evening being held at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds.

TrustPower Community Relations Coordinator Suzi Luff says the Kaibosh have put together a fantastic presentation.

“The Wellington City community should be really proud of what Kaibosh has achieved and what it contributes to its community. They will make wonderful ambassadors for your community at the TrustPower National Community Awards,” says Suzi.

“The concept behind Kaibosh makes so much sense, yet it is New Zealand’s first dedicated food rescue organisation. In the last twelve months alone they have redistributed over 42,000 kgs of surplus food to people in need thanks to this group’s hearty band of volunteers.”

Attending the National Awards from Kaibosh will be Robyn and George Langlands, along with Wellington City Mayor Celia Wade-Brown and her partner Alistair Nicholson.

The TrustPower National Community Awards Supreme Winner will take home $2,500, a framed certificate, a trophy and a $500 voucher from Exult, a leading and specialist training provider for the community sector. The Runner Up will receive $1,500, a framed certificate and a $200 voucher from Exult.

Manawahe Eco Trust prepares to represent Whakatane District

In just a few days the Manawahe Eco Trust will be going head to head with the country’s best and brightest voluntary groups and organisations at the TrustPower National Community Awards.

The 2012 TrustPower National Community Awards are being held in the Far North District from 22 - 24 March 2013.

Manawahe Eco Trust is representing the Whakatane District at the National Awards – an honour they won after being named Supreme Winner at the inaugural TrustPower Whakatane District Community Awards last year. The TrustPower Whakatane District Community Awards are run in conjunction with the Whakatane District Council and it is the first time that this district will be represented at this event.

Joining the Manawahe Eco Trust at the National Community Awards will be representatives from 23 other voluntary groups or organisations from around the country that were named Supreme Winner at their regional TrustPower Community Awards.

At the National Community Awards, the Manawahe Eco Trust will give an eight minute presentation on what the group has achieved and why they deserve the title of TrustPower National Community Award Supreme Winner. Attending the National Community Awards from the Manawahe Eco Trust will be Janet Milbank and Fran van Alphen, along with Whakatane District Mayor Tony Bonne and his wife Linda.

"Unlawful, Unjustified And Unreasonable": Report Into Urewera Raids Finds Police Acted Unlawfully

Independent Police Conduct Authority Chair Judge Sir David Carruthers said today that the decision by the then Commissioner of Police to undertake the operation in Ruatoki Valley and elsewhere on 15 October 2007 was reasonable and justified.

“However, the road blocks established by Police at Ruatoki and Taneatua were unlawful, unjustified and unreasonable... Police had no legal basis for stopping and searching vehicles or photographing drivers or passengers,” he said...

The report also showed that the detention of the occupants at five properties examined by the Authority was unlawful and unreasonable. More>>
