Man assaulted on State Highway 10 south of Kerikeri

Police are calling for any witnesses who may have seen 45-year-old man who was attacked on State Highway Ten south of Kerikeri this morning.

The man was travelling on State Highway Ten near Oromahoe Road about 7am when he was signalled to stop by another vehicle.

He pulled over and was assaulted by two men. During the incident the man had a substance, possibly bleach, thrown in his eyes and received some minor cuts to his face from a knife used by the offenders.

The victim's wallet and cellphone were taken during the incident.

Police are investigating the incident and are exploring a number of possibilities regarding any motive for the attack.

The victim was unable to get a description of the offenders, but described their vehicle as white, or possibly silver, with a flat bonnet that sloped down - similar to a Honda Prelude or Honda Accord.

The victim's vehicle was a white Nissan Nivara 4WD with Northland Regional Council sign writing on it.

Police would like anyone who was travelling on State Highway Ten between Waipapa and Oromahoe Road between 7am and 7.40am this morning and who may have witnessed this incident to contact the Kerikeri Police Station on 09 407 9211 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
