Extensions granted for Red Zone property owners

Extensions granted for Red Zone property owners

Almost 100 property owners in the Residential Red Zone who have agreed to sell to the Crown have had their settlement dates extended.

The Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA) is considering case by case extensions to settlement dates in the flat land Red Zone based on vulnerability and individual circumstances.

Of the 316 requests for extension from owners received to date, 92 have so far been granted extensions with varying timeframes depending on their circumstances. Requests from five property owners have not met the necessary criteria and have been declined.

Requests received with all relevant information are generally being processed within a week, however in some cases it is taking longer as more information is sought from the property owner. It is expected the majority of property owners who have made requests will have a decision by the end of next week.

The opportunity to make a request for extension has now closed for most property owners, but those in red zoned areas in Southshore and South New Brighton have until 19 July 2013 to do so.

The case by case extension process does not apply to the Port Hills property owners, who have until 31 January 2014 to accept the Crown offer.

Request forms have been mailed to property owners and can be downloaded from the CERA website. Information about the process or completing the form is available on the CERA website, or by calling 0800 RING CERA.
