From the 8 - 14 July Thistle Hall will play host to 'Static Sound', the inaugural exhibition of six Wellington-based photographers.

Featuring the work of high-school-age artists, this showcase looks at the idea of Photography as voice, a means of projection and expression. In a time where the standing place of New Zealand young people is culturally and socially debated and misunderstood, these six artists seek to cut through the din of many voices and make their own heard.

"Young people have had little say in the perception created by media and authorities about them. They are looking to express their passion, opinion and frustration through fresh creative communication" said exhibition curator Lisa Burchett. 30 images will explore rarely-seen perspectives on beauty, sadness and the urban jungle in a style which is both alluring and sometimes jarring.

Those featured are all graduates of the Zeal Photography Academy, a project which seeks to connect aspiring young artists with industry professionals who can assist in honing and developing their craft.
