Wellington Free Ambulance says Capital quake timely reminder

Wellington Free Ambulance says the big quake in Wellington on Sunday night is a timely reminder for people to secure their furniture and remember the ‘drop, cover, hold’ drill.

Executive Manager-Service Delivery, Andrew Long, says Wellington Free Ambulance had to attend four people injured in the Sunday night quake, a relatively small number of casualties.

“All of these people had been injured by falling furniture. One man was knocked unconscious by a falling television. None of the injuries in this quake were serious, but it is a timely reminder that people need to secure their furniture to prevent more serious injury in any further quakes.”

Mr Long says Wellington Free Ambulance has an earthquake disaster preparedness plan which was actioned on Sunday night.

“The plan supports Wellington Free Ambulance, to manage its organisation through an earthquake, as well as provide emergency services to the Wellington region.”
