Saturday 27th July: This week the Auckland Council’s Regional Development and Operations Committee voted in favour of a citywide smokefree policy which could make Auckland City the first smokefree city in the world by 2015. Sunday 28th July: The Kohanga Reo National Trust has admitted it indulged in sleight of hand to get Tertiary Education Commission funding for teacher training courses that hadn’t secured New Zealand Qualifications Authority funding.  Tawhirimaatea Williams from Te Wananga Takiura o Nga Kura Kaupapa Maori, a kuratini who train kura kaupapa teachers, talks to Eru about the implications of the scandal not just for kohanga reo but for the wider Maori language revitalisation sector.
