NETWORK SUMMARY for week ending 8 September 2013
There were seven car vs pole incidents last week – in Red Beach, Mt Wellington, Hauraki, Clevedon and Northcote along with two in Mangere. In Clevedon, the incident caused a power outage affecting around 130 people for a short time and in one Mangere incident, the pole was so badly damaged it had to be replaced.
Heavy rain and high winds on Thursday caused power outages in Wainui, Silverdale, Riverhead, Wellsford and Warkworth. Crews worked on faults to restore power quickly.
Vector crews were called in to isolate power for safety at a property in Arkles Bay which had caught fire. A building on fire on Waiheke Island also posed a safety risk to firemen and our crews isolated the power to the premises.
Contractors struck a pipe while carrying out work in the Auckland suburb of Grafton. Our crews made the site safe and have carried out further maintenance work. Third party contractors also struck Vector’s gas network in Milford during the week.
More than 2.4 kilometres of cable have been undergrounded as part of the major cable project in Maraetai. Vector crews worked through the winter months to drill, install ducts and lay the new cables to cater for the population growth in Maraetai and Beachlands. The project took two months to complete with crews being faced with challenging weather conditions. The cabling project is one of several projects underway in the area including a major reinforcement and upgrade of the Maraetai substation as well as an undergrounding project in Te Pene and Craig Roads.
The undergrounding project is customer initiated and over the next two months the waterside streets will be transformed with all overhead lines and poles being replaced with underground cables.
