Will Oracle will another race?

MEDIA RELEASE
September 13, 2013

Will Oracle will another race?

After Team New Zealand’s domination of races 6 & 7 this morning, the TAB is confident that the America’s Cup will return to New Zealand.

“Team NZ have shown nothing but dominance throughout the America’s Cup to the point where we have absolutely no doubt the Auld Mug will be returning to New Zealand shores,” said TAB Yachting Bookmaker Kevin McAnulty. “There are no sure things in betting, but we are willing to say this is as close as it gets.”

The question now is, will Oracle Team USA win another race?

“Since we consider it a matter of when, rather than if, Team NZ secure the 3 wins needed to secure the Cup, we have closed betting on the Winner of the 53rd America’s Cup and opened an option titled ‘Will Oracle Win Another Race’. All the talk has been on weather Oracle are actually good enough to win another race, so now punters have the chance to actually bet on it.”

With Oracle paying $3.20 to win another race, they’re the clear underdogs in the proposition. Team NZ are meanwhile paying $1.30 to win all the remaining races.

For Oracle Team USA fans, the next best chance of Oracle winning on the TAB books is for them to take the lead at the second mark, something the tab thinks is quite possible considering they did so during Race six this morning.

“It is clear Team New Zealand have the better boat, and the slicker crew, when sailing up wind, but apart from that things are pretty even,” says McAnulty. “With odds on Team NZ to win each race being pretty short, we have identified that it is actually the race to the 2nd mark where things are the most competitive.”

It’s even odds on this option, with both Team New Zealand and Oracle Team USA at $1.85 to be the leader at that stage.

“Punters love to back Team NZ in an even contest, so with our Leader at the 2nd Mark option, we have given them that opportunity.”
