Nz Body Art Showcase 2013

The Circus Rolls Closer Into Town Nz Body Art Showcase 2013 – “The Circus”

Applications have now closed for another year as the NZ Body Art Showcase 2013 draws closer for Auckland audiences, as “The Circus” turns the Bruce Mason Centre in Takapuna into a Big Top on September 21st.

There are currently 53 entries, with the number expected to increase as the final applications are filed away, with a mere four from Australia this year – proving that the industry within New Zealand in terms of special effects, make up and body art is thriving at an ever bigger rate than expected.

It’s been many years since the showcase has housed seven categories, but the body of talent on offer in 2013 had lead to this expansion once again and includes a brand new category: the ASB Community Trust Open Category, specific to this year’s theme.

This year’s presentation also has a very unique aspect – there will be no MC, nor a voiceover.

Instead, members of Silver Circle will help with the category transition through their shared passion of circus performance. The only utterance of a word will be the presentation of the awards – that’s it!

Students from the Apollo Theatre School will also be performing this year – with a dance number wearing and using UV art, inspired by children under the age of 18. The masks, props and costumes will have all been produced by the under-18 category finalists as part of the InspireNZ Theatrical Production Awards (whose entries are still open until September 13th).
