Students Work Debuts at World of WearableArt Awards Show

PRESS RELEASE – 26 September 2013

Students Work Debuts at World of WearableArt Awards Show

WelTec hairdressing student, Sarah Johnson, styling fellow student, Stacey Dalziel, under the watchful eye of her tutor, Lesley Whitecliffe-Smith.

Two lucky Wellington Institute of Technology hairdressing students’ work is debuting at the World of WearableArt Awards Show (WOW) tonight.  For Sarah Johnson and Stacey Dalziel, two first year Wellington Trades Academy students, WOW is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate their newly acquired colouring and styling skills.

Under the guidance of Lesley Whitecliffe-Smith, WelTec’s hairdressing tutor, these young women are both excited and nervous to hear the audiences’ opinion of their work when it features on stage this evening as WOW gets underway.

Sarah and Stacey were approached by their tutor to see if they would like to work on WOW.  They have been preparing for the last three months and last Sunday they were involved in a full day of colouring models for WOW.

For Stacey, participating in WOW takes her one closer step to working in industry.  “My goal is to work my way into WETA workshop one day.  I’m studying hairdressing now and then I’ll move onto make-up artistry.  By having a trade you can take your skills everywhere.” says Stacey.

For Sarah working on WOW is great. “It’s good to work hard.  My efforts this year have resulted in me getting this opportunity to do the colouring for WOW.  This experience will mean it is even more likely I’ll one day get an apprenticeship in the industry.” says Sarah.

45 WelTec hairdressing and make-up artistry students are contributing to WOW this year.  WelTec has an agreement with WOW to provide hairdressing and make-up services for the show.
