Pink light for breast cancer – NZ landmarks light up

Landmark buildings around New Zealand will light up pink from today, October 1, in support of Breast Cancer Month. From the Old Municipal Building in Whangarei to the Otago Settlers Museum in Dunedin, 19 local landmarks will join more than 200 other iconic or historic structures around the world as part of Global Illuminations, an initiative established by Estee Lauder Companies in 2000.

Auckland’s Sky Tower, Wellington’s Michael Fowler Centre and the Canterbury Museum in Christchurch are some of the “world famous in New Zealand” buildings set to glow pink.
“Global Illuminations acknowledges the enormous impact that breast cancer has on communities around the world,” said Van Henderson, chief executive of the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation. “We’re very grateful to all the councils and building owners who have agreed to light up pink. Their commitment will keep help raise awareness of all the fundraising activities going on in October.”

Funds raised through the NZBCF’s Pink Ribbon Street Appeal (October 11-12) and through community fundraising events around the country will go toward research into new targeted treatments, life-saving awareness and education programmes, and support for women going through breast cancer.
