Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan

Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan

The Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan is now online, marking its official notification and the start of the formal submission phase, that will run until 28 February 2014. The plan will ensure that Auckland can meet its economic and housing growth needs and help its centres meet their potential, while protecting and enhancing what already makes the region great.

It will determine:
• what can be built and where
• how to create a higher quality and more compact Auckland
• how to provide for rural activities
• how to maintain the marine environment.

The unitary plan replaces the existing 13 existing district and regional plans.

The Auckland Council Unitary Plan webpage is an interactive space where you can access an online tool to find proposed zoning changes to your property and how the new rules effect your property, along with a host of other information such as detailed information on key topics: - urban areas, rural areas, education, environment and heritage, mana whenua, transport and infrastructure, to name a few.

An overview of the plan is available at the following link: http://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/EN/planspoliciesprojects/plansstrategies/unitaryplan/Documents/proposedunitaryplanoverview.pdf (3MB)

The full Unitary Plan is available on the E-plan page which provides information on proposed zoning rules, overlays and precincts as well as access to online maps: http://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/EN/planspoliciesprojects/plansstrategies/unitaryplan/Pages/usingtheeplan.aspx

Gordon Campbell:
On What John Banks And Nick Smith Have In Common

The defence that John Banks has been offering to the charges of electoral fraud – that he didn’t read the document he signed, and therefore lacked the necessary criminal intent – is a fairly standard example of political business as usual.

At a time when political power is being centralised downtown in the Executive, responsibility is being re-located to the suburbs. The Beehive seeks to operate as a blame free, shame free environment. At all times, plausible deniability is to be maintained.

Being able to put distance between the Minister and the actions/outcomes/political fallout of policy is not simply the last desperate resort of scoundrels, but the first resort of the foot soldiers in ministerial service... More>>
