Len Brown’s arrogant disregard for democracy |

Minto for Mayor
3 October 2013
Media Release:
Len Brown’s arrogant disregard for democracy
Incumbent Mayor Len Brown is displaying an arrogant disregard for democracy with his declining to answer any questions posted on the local government website here:
http://www.vote.co.nz/2013/candidates/len-brown-8076
It’s all very well for the current mayor to encourage people to vote but he’s providing an appalling example of disengagement with voters despite having vastly more campaign resources than any other candidate.
It’s not as though Brown doesn’t know the questions are there because each candidate is automatically emailed each new question as it comes in.
And despite declining to engage on-line, this is the mayor who says he’s looking forward to the on-line voting trial planned for the next local body elections.
Why would people be more encouraged to engage in democracy with on-line voting when local body leaders treat on-line questions from voters with such disdain?
