More wet and windy weather
The active spring westerly flow will keep the weather systems coming across New Zealand at a fast and furious pace this weekend, with further wet and windy spells likely.
MetService Media and Communications Meteorologist Daniel Corbett commented;" this weather will certainly have an active spring flavour over the next few days. You will almost need a scorecard to keep track of the numerous weather systems passing through."
The first weather system will bring a brief spell of heavy rain to parts of the west coast of the South Island before moving northeast across the rest of the country for Thursday night into Friday.
A low will bring another round of wet and windy weather late Friday into the first part of the weekend. This passing low will deepen quickly as it slides across central New Zealand early Saturday bringing a bout of very strong northwestery winds that will shift around to southwesterly by early Saturday.
These winds could reach severe gale in much of northern New Zealand, including Northland, Auckland and the Coromandel, a Severe Weather Watch is already in place. There will also be a significant risk for squally, thundery weather in northern and western areas as the front moves through.
Sunday might be drier as a high builds down from the north. Monday will bring yet another active low with strong northwesterlies and spells of rain moving across the country.
