Police investigating serious assault in city park

Nelson Police are investigating a serious assault on a 53 year old local man in a city park today.
Police received multiple calls to the incident at Anzac Park about 12.20pm and found the victim hiding in a public toilet. He had been beaten with a wooden pole and sustained serious injuries to his face and arms.
Shortly after Police arrested a 29 year old Nelson man and 32 year old Nelson man in relation to the incident. It is believed a third person was involved in the assault and Police are working to identify that person.
Police are speaking with a number of people who witnessed the assault. Police would like to hear from anyone else who saw the attack.
Investigators are also trying to locate the weapon used. It is believed to be a round pole about 1 metre long.
