High Wind Gusts Causing Issues
Mon, 14/10/2013 - 10:34am
Due to the high winds across the entire Wairarapa region Police are advising motorists to restrict their driving to that which is absolutely necessary.
A tree has fallen on to State Highway 2 near Tauherenikau, a truck has been blown over on State Highway 2 near the Mt Bruce Bird Sanctuary and a driver of a motor vehicle crossing the Rimutaka Hill reported being blown completely around by a gust. Because of the weather conditions it may be some time before it is safe to attempt to salvage the truck however it is not blocking traffic in its current location. All other matters are being attended to or do not require further attention.
No injuries have been reported at this stage.
Motorbikes and high sided vehicles are at most risk however all drivers in any vehicle should be driving with extreme care or cancelling unnecessary travel where possible.
