Quad biker injured in Akatarawa Valley
The Life Flight Trust’s Westpac rescue helicopter was called at approximately 9.50 this morning to transport a man injured in a quad bike accident at the Upper Hutt end of the Akatarawa Valley.
Life Flight responded in the Westpac Rescue Helicopter with a Wellington Free Ambulance Paramedic and Doctor on board.
“As we understand it the man was ejected off his quad bike when he hit a stationary object at a fairly high speed” says Dave Greenberg, Life Flight Crewman. “The man was brought down to Akatarawa Road by friends on the back of a ute so we were not able to see the actual scene”.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter landed in a paddock about 1km from where a WFA ambulance met up with the ute. The man was transported to the helicopter where he was stabilised prior to flight.
The Hutt Valley man, in his 20’s, was transported to the Wellington Hospital Emergency Department is a serious condition suffering from multiple injuries. The injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
