What’s cooking at the Show

The Electrolux Kitchen in the Food & Wine NZ Pavilion at this year’s Canterbury A&P Show will feature demonstrations from top New Zealand chefs, for the budding gourmet, and local cooks, for some inspiration for hearty at home meals.

The culinary clever chefs from The Selwyn Food and Wine Trail will demonstrate some of their favourite dishes with a focus on using local Selwyn produce to create simple, yet delicious dishes complemented by Selwyn Food and Wine Trail wines. Chefs include Mark MacCracken from Rossendale and Lauren Carmichael from Langdale Vineyard Restaurant. The Selwyn Food and Wine Trail was recently named the best wine tourism service in the South Island Best of Wine Tourism Awards.

Top NZ foodie and Ambassador Le Cordon Bleu New Zealand, Julie Biuso, will be demonstrating recipes from her 16th cookbook which was released in October. Julie has an impressive food pedigree, including winner of The Goodman Fielder Wattie Food Industry Book Award 1992; University of Canterbury (NZ) Food Journalism Award 2000; The Booksellers' Choice Award 2000; The Montana Lifestyle Book Award 2001; 6 NZGFW Culinary Quills Awards and 6 Gourmand World Cookbook Awards; Gold Ladle in the World Food Media Awards 2005; awarded a Special Prize by the Gourmand Jury for Career Achievements 2007; and Recipient of The Good Egg Award 2011 ROYAL NZ SPCA.

The Electrolux Kitchen will also include demonstrations from local ladies from Rural Women NZ, a charitable, membership-based organisation which supports people in rural communities through opportunities, advocacy and connections. The demonstrations will include good wholesome meals, sure to be a hit in any recipe book.
