Silo Park Launches December and January Season with Mistletoe On Top

Summer is hot on everyone’s heels and Silo Park is gearing up for a stellar season of free entertainment on Auckland waterfront’s Wynyard Quarter. In its third season, Silo Park is thrilled to launch the first bite of what’s in store for December and January. Welcoming families, neighbouring office workers, wharfies, students in jandals and everyone in between, Silo Park will host an array of events for all Aucklanders and its visitors to enjoy. On Friday 6th December, Silo Park will sparkle and come alive for the countdown to Christmas.  From the ever-so popular Friday night films, themed Christmas markets to children’s workshops, Silo Park will present a range of free events from Thursday – Sunday each week, these will run from December 2013 until the end of March 2014.

Bask in the light decorations from Brazen Decor or pick up a real live Christmas tree to the beats of some of Auckland's finest DJs. Enjoy Tuatara beer and Zeffer cider on tap from the Silo Park bar, along with an assortment of other locally crafted beers and interesting wines, situated in the iconic shipping container. Pick up some baked treats from Doppio Zero, cover your Christmas shopping with our featured gift vendors (to be announced soon), and wrap it all up at our gift-wrapping stalls. Silo Park will be a magical space to shop and soak up the Christmas twinkle this year.

The Silo Markets have been extended to become a central feature of Silo Park this summer. From the 6th December, the markets will be open Thursday and Friday (5pm until late); Saturdays and Sundays (12-6pm).  Serving up an exceptional mix of food stalls, art, vintage clothing, contemporary artists, and experiential vendors. This will include the likes of Smoove Reworked Vintage, Goodbye Horses, Mactisserie, Sneaky Studios, Kabanya, Stationery Corner, Brazen Decor, Trigger Happy and many more.
The food market is jam-packed full of tasty morsels to include Silo summer staples alongside some mighty fine newcomers – the options include Paella Pan, Langos, Mr. Dix Miller's Coffee, Stumpy's Pizza, Toro Churro, The Cool Store, MexiKai, The Lucky Taco, The Beverage Boy, Colo Tako, Heavenly Pies and Real Good Brownies.

The endlessly popular Silo Cinema Season is back for another year; featuring a unique and varied range of films. Pack a picnic or head down after work for a cool beverage and bite to eat at the markets, before enjoying a spot on the grass to watch a film projected on to Silo 7. Without further ado, Silo Park organisers and Waterfront Auckland are delighted to present the following films; It's a Wonderful Life (6th December), Nightmare Before Christmas (13thDecember), The Muppet Christmas Carol, sponsored by QUIT (20th December); Spirited Away (10th January), The Human Scale (17th January), The Mayors Movie - The Lion King (24thJanuary), The Graduate (31st January).

But wait there’s more. A special feature in this year's programme occurs on 17th January 2014 with the involvement of four Pecha Kucha presentations relating to various elements of design and architecture before the showing of the documentary film The Human Scale. Pecha Kucha is an explosive presentation format in which content is informally and efficiently shown, adopted by more than 700 cities worldwide. A presenter shows twenty images for twenty seconds apiece for a total time of six minutes, forty seconds. The film itself deals with issues pertaining to urbanisation and city-living, creating an intriguing experience for an inner-city open-air cinema. More information regarding speakers will be available in December.

An exciting Anniversary Weekend Silo Session is back for another year, with an awesome raft of well-known musicians and DJs in the mix! After a hugely successful World Together last season, Nick D and Dick Johnson are once again bringing communities from all over the world (and Auckland) back to Silo Park for what will be an even bigger and better festival. Along with an array of fantastic performers, dancers and musicians, the Silo Market will be hosting a huge array of international food, cultures and market stalls. This free event will kick off at midday, to make for a great addition to what is proving to be a busy Waterfront over Anniversary Weekend.

Silo Park is a thriving civic space of Waterfront Auckland, developed with an urban spirit to reflect upon the area's industrial past.

The weatherman has spoken – it’s going to be a long hot Silo Park summer on Auckland's vibrant urban waterfront. Silo Park and it’s activations for the public are made possible each year with Waterfront Auckland’s dedication to creating a vibrant and accessible waterfront in Auckland City.

Summer in Silo Park is a community of good times, bringing the public a mighty selection of free events to Auckland’s vibrant waterfront.
