The Lumberjack Show

The MORE FM Village Green will see the return of the popular Lumberjack Show with world champion Stirling Hart (aka The Flying Squirrel) battling against one of New Zealand’s finest, Bobby Dowling (aka The Mega Unit). Risking life and limb, the lumberjacks will be racing up and down 50 foot poles and running on logs in water.

Zilco Scurry NZ Racing

Scurry racing is horses or ponies in carts, racing against the clock around a course of cones with balls balanced on top. Knocking a ball off incurs a 2 second time penalty. The fastest after adding any penalties wins. Top level drivers need to be highly skilled with both speed and accuracy being required to win. Scurry racing is fast, exciting and easy to follow. It is a great spectator sport and has been an attraction at European country shows for many years.

JCL Canterbury FMX Open

Top international riders will be competing with qualification rounds on Wednesday and Thursday followed by the final on Friday. Riders include British FMX star Luke Smith (Crusty Demons), Mitch McHardy (Metal Mulisha FMX) and Australian rider Ryan Brown (Nitro Circus).

Mint Lamb Competition

Farmers from throughout New Zealand were invited to showcase their quality lamb and compete in the 2013 Mint Lamb Competition. Lambs were initially judged for yield and then tender tested resulting in 12 finalists.  The finalists will be taste tested at 4.30pm with the winner announced following the judging. The taste test judging is hosted by award winning satirist, documentary maker, writer, stage and screen director, failed gardener, television presenter and amateur historian, Te Radar (Andrew J Lumsden).

This year’s Canterbury A&P Show will be held Wednesday 13 to Friday 15 November at Canterbury Agricultural Park in
Christchurch. It is the largest A&P Show in the country attracting 100,000 people, close to 6000 livestock and feature competition entries and 550 trade exhibitors.
